Denmark helps Pakistanis displaced by terror

Pakistan,Indo-Pak/Pakistan,Terrorism, Sun, 03 Jun 2012 IANS

Islamabad, June 3 (IANS) The Danish government, through its partner organisations, has been providing urgent food supplies to more than 1,100 displaced Pakistani families who have fled their homes due to terrorist activities.

The DanChurchAid (DCA) and Church World Service (CWS) have helped out in a five-day food distribution programme in three areas of Peshawar -- Sheikh Muhammadi, Surizai Payan and Badher, the Daily Times reported Sunday.

The food supplies were given to displaced people living far away from the refugee camp. The food packages were designed to meet a family's daily intake of 2,100 kilocalories for one month.

Uffe Wolffhechel, Danish ambassador to Pakistan, said: "The situation of the IDPs (internally displaced persons) is unfortunately a huge human and national challenge."

"Such kind of displacements give rise to particular vulnerabilities for those affected, necessitating special measures for assistance and protection that correspond to those vulnerabilities," he said.
