Australia's retail turnover falls

Sydney, May 30 (IANS) Australian retail turnover fell 0.2 percent in April following a rise of 1.1 percent in March, figures released Wednesday by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) showed.

Retail trade fell to 21.21 billion AU dollars ($20.82 billion) in April, compared to 21.27 billion AU dollars in March, the ABS said.

According to the ABS, the largest contributor to the fall was household goods retailing, followed by other retailing, department stores and clothing and footwear and personal accessory retailing, reported Xinhua.

Economists had forecast a rise of 0.2 percent for the month of April.
