Wills-Kat 'undergoing SAS anti-kidnap training'

London, Sun, 27 May 2012 ANI

London. May 27 (ANI): The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are reportedly being given new SAS anti-kidnap training amid mounting fears that they might be targeted during the Jubilee celebrations and Olympics.

The royal couple have made a series of visits to SAS headquarters in Hereford to learn what they need to do if terrorists try to snatch them.

Members of the elite regiment have been teaching them survival skills. Kate, 30, and William, 29, also handled guns in case they have to use them in a real-life kidnap situation.

"Kate and William have been to the base a couple of times. It is beyond top secret," the Daily Star quoted a royal insider as saying.

So realistic was one of the demonstrations, that the Duchess of Cambridge got scared by the gunfire and explosions.

"She got a bit scared with the bangs going off so they took it a bit easy for her," the insider said.

"William thought it was great, being a military man himself. The SAS didn't want to terrify the life out of them but these guys are not the most delicate of creatures."

Kate and William have been updated on tactics and they have impressed the top brass with their approach.

If the royals are snatched, the SAS skills that are being taught to them could save their lives.

"took it all in their stride," the insiders have said.

Thanks to their youth they can move fast whenever ordered and obey commands instantly.

Among the weapons they would be handling are the SAS favourite, the Browning 9mm automatic handgun and the 9mm Glock automatic which is often carried by police.

Kate is already a pretty good shot. She has been on game shoots at the royal estate in Sandringham, Norfolk.

William first did the course when he was 16, when he was taught to fire a machine gun.(ANI)
