Brit student becomes youngest woman to climb Mt Everest at 21
London, May 22 (ANI): A 21-year-old student from England has become the youngest woman ever to reach the top of Mount Everest.
Mollie Hughes, from Bristol, touched the summit of the world's highest peak before starting the exhausting climb back down, and is currently 12 hours down the mountain recovering at Camp 4 which stands at 26,247 feet.
Hughes and her team made the final push to the summit in near perfect conditions, and posted pictures of the special moment on her blog site.
The mountain towers 29,029 ft above sea level, making it the highest mountain on Earth.
"I'm feeling confident but a little bit apprehensive about the climb," the Sun quoted her as saying before the climb.
"We have had to wait more than a week for a weather window so we're about ready to attempt the climb," she said.
Her mother Jane Spreckley, from Torbay, Devon, said: "We're all beyond proud of Mollie.
"She's dedicated her life to today and has raised an incredible 2,500 pounds for her charity Action Aid.
"I still haven't managed to speak to Molly but the group radioed to base camp to say they had made it safely.
"We are extremely relieved to hear everything has gone well and she is fine - we can't wait to hear all about it," the mum added.
Hughes' success comes on the same day that three climbers have died and two others are missing while returning from the summit. (ANI)
