WikiLeaks cable revelations may have led to hanging of Israeli 'spy' by Iran

London, Thu, 17 May 2012 ANI

London, May 17(ANI): Iran may have utilized a clandestine cable published by whistleblower website WikiLeaks to target and hang an alleged Israeli spy for the killing of their nuclear scientist Massoud Ali-Mohammadi.

The alarming development came into the scene after the alleged spy, kick boxer Majid Jamali Fashi, was hanged at Tehran's Evin Prison in Tehran on Tuesday for assassinating an Iranian nuclear scientist in 2010.

Fashi, 24, had visited Azerbaijan for kickboxing tournament days before the covert cable was sent, reports claim, and experts believe the United States Embassy document could have raised Iranian fears.

The file detailed a US diplomat's debriefing of the source, who told how the Iranian regime put pressure on martial arts clubs to train members of the Revolutionary Guards and used them to put down the popular uprising three years ago, The Daily Mail reports.

A remote-controlled bomb attached to a motorcycle outside the scientist's home in Tehran, and Iran blamed it on Mossad.

Fashi was arrested and charged days after the cable was published in December 2010. WikiLeaks had no comment to make on the report. (ANI)
