Washington, May 16(ANI): Former Pak ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani has condemned the regular media campaign against him to people who are full of hate, and are ideologically motivated.
Haqqani claimed that he wouldn't be put off by such people and would carry on arguing in favour of Pakistan's future as a modern and pluralist nation.
"Insha allah, I have ideas to articulate, books to write and students to teach. In the greater scheme of things, a little noise from people full of hate makes little difference," The Daily Telegraph quoted Haqqani, as replying when asked if he had been shaken by the memo saga.
Haqqani made it clear that he was not playing any role in U.S.-Pakistan relations and does not intend to do so while out of office.
"My views about the need for a reality-based foreign policy and the need for positive US-Pakistan relations free of ideological hatred are well-known and I would continue to voice my opinions," he said.
Haqqani refuted comments made by former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi that he is still influencing Pakistani policy towards the United States.
"Unlike Makhdoom Sahib, I remain loyal to the Pakistan People's Party but now that I do not have an official position, I have no business interfering in government policy," Haqqani said.
"A minority of ideologues dominates the national discourse by describing anyone with a different view as anti-Islam and anti-Pakistan. But after several decades of propaganda, the ideologues have still not been able to win a majority in elections," he added. (ANI)
