Washington, May 13 (ANI): President Barack Obama is ahead with 45.1 percent votes over presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney with 39.5 among Michigan voters in the race for the White House, according to a new poll.
According to the Glengariff Group Inc. poll, Obama enjoyed strong support from women with 47.3 percent votes, while Romney gained 35 percent votes among women.
However, Obama was nearly tied with 43.8 percent over Romney at 43.1 percent among male voters in Michigan, Politico reports.
The results show a potential "gender gap" problem for Romney, pollster Richard Czuba said. The Republican needs to be wary of that margin, he added.
"Barack Obama, if he wins, will win it on the women's vote," Czuba said. "I think, for the Romney campaign, that is the issue now, making headway with the gender gap."
Regardless of female support, Obama's overall support in Michigan was below 50 percent.
Czuba said that as an incumbent that indicated the Democrat-leaning state might be in play come November; Obama won the state handily in 2008. (ANI)
