Kuala Lumpur, May 11 (ANI): A woman, who is believed to be a maid from Punjab, India, was found burnt to death in a store room of her apartment in Taman Pekaka, Sungai Nibong, Malaysia.
Ratwinder Kaur, 25, allegedly set herself on fire.
Police found 90 percent burns on her body. She was a few metres from the 18th floor apartment unit where she worked.
She was said to have started working under a bank manager and a school teacher, as a maid, about two months ago.
A senior police officer, Commander Gan Kong Meng, said police received a distress call at about 9.50 a.m. yesterday from one of the employers who found a matchbox and a bottle with oil residue near the body.
"There are no signs of struggle in the apartment or the storeroom. Nothing was taken from the apartment as well. She told her employers that she missed her family in India and wanted to go home," The Star Online quoted Gan, as saying.
He said her employers found the door to the apartment ajar but there were no signs of a forced break-in.
Gan further added that police were still waiting for the post-mortem report to determine whether the victim had consumed anything before setting herself on fire. (ANI)
