Washington, May 11(ANI): Dharun Ravi, an Indian-origin ex-Rutgers student, should serve time behind jail for spying on his gay room partner Tyler Clementi, who committed suicide, according to prosecutors.
Ravi has already been found guilty on all 15 counts in connection to his web cam prying he did on roommate 18-year-old Clementi, who jumped to his death off the George Washington Bridge on Sept. 22, 2010.
Ravi, who has been convicted for incursion of privacy, evidence tampering and prejudice intimidation, faces anything from probation to 10 years in jail.rosecutors recommended judge Glenn Berman to send Ravi up the river, but stopped short of saying he deserved serious time.
"Simply put, what is being sought is a period of imprisonment which is in proportion to the multiple crimes committed by defendant Dharun Ravi and for which he was found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by the trial jury," The New York Post quoted Prosecutor Julia McClure writing in her office's sentencing memo, as saying.
Ravi was offered a no-jail deal before trial, but he decided to argue with the jury, which is a clear indication that he's not remorseful for snooping on Clementi.
"Defendant has failed to accept any degree of responsibility for the numerous criminal acts he committed and shows no remorse," McClure wrote.
Ravi set up a web cam to capture footage of Clementi making out with another man. Ravi wrote about his roommate's sexuality on Twitter and invited followers to also watch. (ANI)
