Paper names, shames 192 'freeloaders'

China,Business/Economy, Thu, 10 May 2012 IANS

Beijing, May 10 (IANS) A Chinese newspaper has dedicated two pages to naming and shaming 192 civil servants and others who are still being paid despite not working in their posts for some time.

Yongkang Daily of Yongkang city in east China sold out May 3 after people snapped up the edition listing the names and departments of those who they claim are "freeloading" on the payroll while on leave.

The list includes a deputy director of civil affair department who left with permission in 2003 but continues to enjoy the government's pay since, Global Times reported Thursday.

However, some people named in the list doubted its validity and defended their position.
