Washington, May 8 (ANI): Eight in ten Americans support the Obama administration's plans to remove U.S. troops from Afghanistan by 2012, according to a new survey.
According to a poll by Ipsos/Reuters, 77 percent Americans support the plan to withdraw all U.S. combat troops, excluding trainers and Special Forces, from Afghanistan by the end of 2012, while 24 percent oppose it.
The Poll, covering 776 registered American voters, also showed that 57 percent favor keeping certain forces in the country to assist with Afghan troop training, and 61 percent support keeping some forces there to conduct missions against Al Qaeda, Politico reports.
According to the poll, 73 percent people back Barack Obama's plan to not establish permanent military bases in Afghanistan, compared to 27 percent who oppose it.
The survey also revealed that most Americans considered themselves knowledgeable about the Obama administration's plans in Afghanistan.
According to the poll, 88 percent said they were "aware" of those plans, while 49 percent said they were "familiar." (ANI)
