London, May 6 (ANI): Sky News, a 24-hour British and international satellite television news broadcaster, is launching a new TV network and expanding into the Middle East and North Africa.
The channel is a joint venture between BSkyB and Abu Dhabi Media Investment Corp.
The service, called Sky News Arabia, will go live at 5 pm, UK time, and will bring news to about 50 million houses across the region.
Sky News Arabia will also be available online at www.skynewsarabia.com on smart phones and tablets.
The new network is based in Abu Dhabi and will be supported by 400 editorial staff, across 12 state-of-the-art bureaux.
The head of Sky News based in London John Ryley said: "Although not a direct replica of Sky News in the UK, Sky News Arabia will share our major principles; independence, impartiality and providing breaking news - first.
"Our channel has never been more popular or available to so many people around the world," Ryley said.
"And not only that - this week Sky News, for the first time, is now available in the United States and Canada via Livestation, the aggregator of television news online," Ryley added. (ANI)
