Fog halts 700 cargo ships in China

Beijing, April 30 (IANS) More than 700 cargo ships have been stranded on the Yangtze river in central China due to heavy fog that has shrouded the region for the past two days.

 

The fog began to engulf the area near the Three Gorges Dam in central Hubei province Saturday, and the visibility was reduced to less than 50 metres, Xinhua reported.

 

As of noon Monday, more than 700 ships had been stranded and the fog showed no signs of dissipating, the Three Gorges Dam Navigation Bureau said.
