Libreville (Gabon), April 29 (IANS) The Gabonese Football Federation confirmed that Portuguese Paulo Duarte will replace Gernot Rohr as head coach of Gabon.

The 43-year-old, who signed a two-year contract Saturday, previously coached Burkina Faso but failed to lead the team beyond the group stage in this year's Africa Cup of Nations.

He also coached Uniao Leiria of Portugal and French side Le Mans.

The German-born Rohr guided co-hosts Gabon to the Cup of Nations quarter-finals, where they lost on penalties to Mali, but was not retained because of his poor relations with members of the squad, Xinhua reported.

Duarte's first competitive match will be the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Niger June 1.
