Russian court declines considering election suit

France,Immigration/Law/Rights, Sat, 28 Apr 2012 IANS

Moscow, April 28 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russian Supreme Court has turned down a lawsuit against the presidential elections' outcome that saw Prime Minister Vladimir Putin win by a landslide March 4, the court's website said.

The suit was from 12 voters.

The plaintiffs, who met each other at anti-election protests March 10, sought to abolish the decision of the country's Central Election Commission from March 7, recognising the polls as legitimate.

They will be able to appeal.

According to The Vedomosti daily, the plaintiffs also want to bar president-elect Putin, who won the polls with 63.6 percent votes, from taking his oath May 7 until the court makes a ruling.
