Uganda Olympic Committee president suspended over mismanagement
Kampala (Uganda), April 26 (IANS) Embattled president of the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) Rogers Ddungu has been suspended by his Executive Committee which has accused him of abuse of office.
Seven out of the nine members of the Committee met here late Tuesday and said Ddungu had been suspended over what they called gross abuse of office and violation of the UOC Constitution.
In a letter written by UOC vice president William Blick to the suspended president, said that Ddungu would not be allowed to access the UOC Secretariat, premises, official documents or make any communication on behalf of UOC without prior written authorization of UOC Executive Committee during his suspension period.
The letter which was also marked to International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Uganda's Minister of Sports added that failure to comply with the directives would lead to institution of legal proceedings.
Speaking to Xinhua on phone Ddungu said, there was no way he would leave office just because he had more power than the Executive.
The suspension comes at a time when Ddungu, who has been at logger heads with the Executive over constituting a tribunal to investigate wrangles in the organization.
The last time the matters worsened between them was when Ddungu declined an offer for Uganda's team to train in Britain ahead of the 2012 London Olympics in June.
He instead preferred the money to be utilized to prepare the athletes in Uganda itself.
