North Korea threatens South Korean president

Asia,Taiwan, Province Of China,Defence/Security, Mon, 23 Apr 2012 IANS

Pyongyang, April 23 (IANS) North Korea has threatened to launch 'special operations' against South Korea's president, the official KCNA news agency said Monday.

A special mission team of the Korean People's Army (KPA) said that 'special operations' aimed at Lee Myung-bak and his followers are designed to begin soon 'in the unique way of the DPRK', reported Xinhua citing the KCNA.

It said that Lee, together with his conservative media group who had escalated tensions and insulted North Korea's dignity, would be 'doomed to ashes' under its unprecedented quick strike.

The North Korean foreign ministry said Sunday that if anything happened on the Korean Peninsula, the responsibility would entirely rest with Lee. Also, it said any country intending to interfere in inter-Korea affairs would face retaliation by the North Korean army and people.

A large rally denouncing Lee's government was held here Friday at Kim Il-sung Square. Similar demonstrations followed in provinces and cities nationwide.
