Madrid, April 10 (IANS/AKI) The Easter holiday weekend almost turned tragic for the 13-year-old grandson of Spain's King Juan Carlos, when the teenager shot himself in the foot.

Felipe Juan Froilan misfired his rifle Monday during target practice with his father, Jaime de Marichalar.

Following the incident described by a royal spokesman as a "minor accident" at a family estate in Soria town, north of Madrid, he was rushed to hospital and then transferred to a clinic where he stayed with his mother overnight.

It is illegal in Spain for anybody under 14 years to fire a weapon.

King Juan Carlos, 74, in 1956 was present when his 14-year-old younger brother Alfonso died during a shooting accident at the family estate in Portugal.
