Washington, Wed, 28 Mar 2012 ANI

Washington, Mar 28 (ANI): A US Senate panel has called on China to cease what it describes as 'repressive policies' targeting Tibetans.

The Senate Committee on Foreign Relations also called on the Obama adminitration to a full accounting of monks forcibly removed from the Kirti Buddhist byChina.

According to Fox News, a resolution approved by the panel on Tuesday mourned at least 19 Tibetans who have died in self-immolations over the past year to protest against China's relegious and political suppression.

The panel said the US should not approve any new Chinese diplomatic missions in the country unless China allows the U.S. to set up a consulate in Lhasa, Tibet.

According to the report, the non-binding resolution will now go to the full Senate for approval. (ANI)
