Kenya,Diplomacy, Tue, 27 Mar 2012 IANS

Nairobi, March 27 (IANS) Kenya and Britain have vowed to promote their ties, said visiting British Minister for Africa Henry Bellingham here Monday.

"Kenya and Britain have strong shared interests including trade, development, security, regional stability as well as deep people to people links," said Bellingham after meeting Foreign Minister Moses Wetangula and Internal Security Minister George Saitoti.

Bellingham said his country was committed to strengthening commercial ties as a way of relieving poverty in Kenya through trade rather than aid.

There are over 200,000 Kenyans living, working or studying in Britain.

Two-way trade last year was in excess of one billion British pounds, Xinhua reported.
