Washington, Mar 20 (ANI): Tech giant Apple has announced that it has sold a whopping three million new iPad units since its sale began Friday.

Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Philip Schiller, said it was the strongest iPad release yet.

The third-generation iPad, which was available for pre-order starting March 9, was launched in ten different countries on Friday, the U.S, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland and Britain, The Los Angeles Times reports.

On Friday, the newest iPad is set to launch in 25 additional markets, including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macao, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

The new iPad will not be on sale officially in India for at least another week.

According to the report, analysts had anticipated that the iPad3 would be a strong seller.

Apple had described the pre-order experience as 'off the charts', but the general consensus was that Apple would sell between two million and three million units by the end of March. (ANI)
