No understanding with US on "illegal" drone attacks: Pak Foreign Office

Islamabad, Sat, 17 Mar 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Mar 17 (ANI): Pakistan has said there can be no understanding with the US on drone attacks, as these are illegal and against the nation's sovereignty.

'These attacks are illegal. They amount to the violation of Pakistan's sovereignty, therefore, it is high time US stops the illegal use of drone attacks', The Nation quoted Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit, as saying.

He said Pakistan was using all diplomatic channels to bring an end to the strikes that were damaging its efforts against militancy and terrorism.

'Voices are also being raised in the West against these illegal drone strikes', Basit added.

He said Pakistan was taking the issue forcefully with the US and hoped that the latter would revisit its policy.

On being asked about options available to stop the drone attacks, Basit said they were waiting for the completion of the Parliamentary process on the new terms of engagement with the US. (ANI)
