Sydney, Feb 26(ANI): Former Australian fast bowler and a board member of Cricket Australia, Mike Kasprowicz, has said that young fast bowlers like James Pattinson and Patrick Cummins need to get acquainted with the 'niggle worm' as the game's hierarchy tries to counter the high attrition rate among its fast bowlers.
He said one of the dangers of managing fast bowlers was placing tough restrictions upon them when they had to identify the difference between good and bad pain.
"There's something that'll go wrong, and it won't be pretty, that's granted," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Kasprowicz, as saying.
Kasprowicz explained the reason why he refers to this problem as niggle worm.
"'One of the things I've talked to young bowlers about is the niggle worm, the pain which is a fast bowler's best friend because he's with you every single day you're out in the middle. I call it the niggle worm because it is in one part of your body when you start bowling but it'll magically disappear after a while and reappear somewhere else the next day," he said.
"A fast bowler needs to learn to appreciate good pain, but also understand bad pain and identify what isn't right. If there's an understanding pain is actually a mate, and it's when he's not there that you should worry something major is coming up," he added. (ANI)
