London, Feb 15 (ANI): After facing huge criticism for making offensive jokes about Indian people and culture, the British broadcasting corporation has now failed to curb the use of bad language on its popular television show Top Gear.
Top Gear is broadcast at 8pm local time on BBC2, an hour before 'The Watershed', which is now widely regarded as a family entertainment show.
BCC recently pledged to curb offensive language in its programmes, but in a recent top Gear episode, one guest used the word b******s and the word t***** was sprayed across a car, The Daily Mail reports.
Last year in December, Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson was accused of offensive behaviour for making jokes about Indian people and culture.
In one programme, Clarkson appeared to make light of the lack of sanitation in India for poor residents by driving around slums in a Jaguar fitted with a toilet.
In one scene, he took off his trousers in front of two Indian dignitaries to show them how to use a trouser press.
In another, the Top Gear team place banners promoting British industry on trains.
One read, 'British IT is good for your company', and another, 'Eat English muffins'. The message, however, became intentionally obscene when the carriages of the trains separate and the banner splits.
The Indian High Commission in London later formally complained to the BBC and demanded an apology for Clarkson's actions.
The broadcaster however refused to apologise, saying said the jokes on the programme were at the expense of presenters Jeremy Clarkson, and co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond, rather than the Indian people.
The BBC is apparently not making enough efforts to clamp down on using offensive language in the show as it is well aware that Top Gear is popular with younger teens and children, and its commercial arm makes millions from merchandise relating to the show.
The corporation earlier said it would cut back on offensive language after a survey of over 2,000 viewers found that even young people were concerned about its proliferation. (ANI)
