Malaysian PM promises 'good news' for Indian community
Kuala Lumpur, Feb 8(ANI): Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has said that he has a big announcement to make for the Indian community in Malaysia, while speaking at the Thaipusam celebration at Batu Caves.
He said the good news, which he will share with the Indian community, would portray his government's sincere efforts in helping them.
"I have one more big announcement that I will be making in the near future that will show our (the Government's) sincerity in helping the Indian community," The Star quoted Razak, as saying.
"This partnership must be based on the virtues expounded in the Indian word nambikei or mutual trust and confidence," he added.
He said that this partnership would be vital in making Malaysia a high-income nation by 2020 and would also require involvement from the Indian Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) in various social as well as community programmes.
"If you (the Indian community) have nambikei, there is no problem that we cannot overcome together. You help me and I help you ... nambikei ... you trust me and I trust you," he added.
Razak then referred to various initiatives his government had taken in the past three years to help out the Indian community in Malaysia.
"Whatever we have promised, the Barisan Nasional government has fulfilled," he said,
He also cited the construction of six new Tamil schools in Selangor, Perak, Kedah and Johor, which he announced after meeting Tamil school headmasters recently. (ANI)
