Andy Farrell wants son to follow in Becks' footsteps

London, Jan 29 (ANI): Former rugby league hero Andy Farrell has told his son Owen to use David Beckham as his perfect role model to fame and glory.

Farrell knows his talented kid has the physical skills to reach the very top in rugby union, and just wants him to be as mentally professional as the former England and Manchester United star.

Young Owen, 20, admits it would be "a dream" to kick for England in next Saturday's Calcutta Cup clash, and interim head coach Stuart Lancaster is ready to throw him into the fierce battle with the Scots.

Farrell senior is more concerned that his chip off the old block lives a dedicated and utterly professional life both on and off the field.

While Beckham has won 115 England caps during his amazing career, Owen prepares for his debut.

"People talk about David Beckham with all the commercial stuff that goes alongside that - but everybody in sport knows that he is the first at training and the last out of training," the Daily Star quoted Andy as saying.

"His focus has always been about football first and that's what all the greats have done.

"As long as you don't get distracted with the show that goes with it then you have got a good career ahead.

"You have to focus on not wanting everything that goes with success and fame, keep your feet on the ground and keep things real.

"It is the rugby that matters. And players like Jonny Wilkinson are the best you can talk about.

"There is stuff that I would pass on to any young kid that I have learned along the way. It is all about your attitude.

"It depends on what you want. Do you want to be as good a rugby player and as good a team player as you can be? That's what gets you up every morning.

"If you have been in a commercial deal, or if going to the opening of an envelope is what you like more than rugby, then it is not going to last very long.

"It is about nothing but the rugby and I see the same in all this squad," he added. (ANI)
