Drunken US men caught riding horse, donkey have DWI charges dropped

Texas, Thu, 13 Jan 2011 ANI

Texas, Jan 13 (ANI): Two men, who were arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) after drunkenly riding a horse and a donkey down a crowded street in Austin, Texas, have had their charges reduced.

Jose Rios, 33, and Samuel Olivo Jr., 48, were caught riding the animals on a very busy street while intoxicated, myFOXaustin.com reported.

The two even coaxed people on the street to come, take pictures and pet their horse and donkey, and officers say the two were impeding traffic and could have caused an accident.

Officers conducted a field sobriety test on the two and then charged them with driving while intoxicated.

But the charges were later reduced to public intoxication, as the legal definition of a motor vehicle in relation to the DWI charges did not apply.

As for the animals, officers had to transfer the horse and donkey to the Town Lake Animal Center until they could get better accommodations at Elgin animal hospital, about 42km from Austin. (ANI)
