Hacked N. Korean Twitter account shows Kim Jong-il and 'heir' are 'sworn enemies'

Pyongyang , Mon, 10 Jan 2011 ANI

Pyongyang, Jan 10 (ANI): North Korea's Twitter account has reportedly been attacked by hackers, who posted tweets on the page against leader Kim Jong-il and heir apparent Kim Jong-un describing the duo as their sworn enemies, and urged people to remove them from power.

By the time the micro-blogging mischief was over, the North Korean tweets had ranted to its 10,000-plus Twitter followers about profligate nuclear weapons spending and lavish Kim Jong Il drinking parties hosted "while three million people are starving and freezing to death," The Age reports.

Besides, a video was also posted on the country's official YouTube channel, showing a caricature of Kim Jong-un driving a luxury sports car and running over women and children on the side of the road.

The sports car cartoon posted on YouTube shifts to a train carrying gifts for the heir-apparent's 28th birthday, which coincides with the hacking.

However, the paper suggests that the cyber attack has caused minimal damage to the reputation of the country's leader because North Korea permits internet access only to its most privileged citizens.

Although it remains uncertain who co-ordinated the breach, South Korean media websites and the South's Yonhap news agency attributed the scheme to South Korean hackers.

North Korea maintains strong control over information but experts say the government devotes substantial resources to IT training, and the South Korea's Defence Ministry has warned of the North's sophisticated hackers. (ANI)
