Malay Indian leader Palanivel figuring out ways to accept sacked members

Kuala Lumpur , Tue, 04 Jan 2011 ANI

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 4 (ANI): Malaysian Indian Congress' (MIC) Information Chief P. Kamalanathan has said that the party's President, G. Palanivel is trying to figure out ways to accept earlier sacked members with an intention to regain grassroot support for the MIC and to strengthen the party.

"Many of those sacked from the party have expressed their wish to return to the party following the change of leadership while disciplinary action has already been taken against them," the New Strait Times quoted him, as saying.

"However, in MIC, the most powerful is the party constitution. Therefore, the president will refer and carefully look at the constitution before readmitting those sacked from the party," Kamalanathan added.

According to the MIC constitution, a sacked party member must wait for at least two or three years before he can be reaccepted into the party.

Yesterday, Palanivel who replaced S. Samy Vellu as party president last month said he is willing to forgive the sacked MIC leaders and reaccept them into the Barisan Nasional component party.

During Samy Vellu's 31-year presidency, many leaders who did not maintain a good rapo with him were sacked, with some setting up new parties such as the Indian Progressive Front and Malaysian Indian United Party.

Among them are party Central Working Committee members Kumar Aamaan and K.P. Samy, and Youth Deputy Chief V. Mugilan, who was also Selangor MIC and Hulu Selangor Youth head.

Mugilan, who is also the founder of Gerakan Anti Samy (GAS) said he viewed Palanivel's stand positively. (ANI)
