Malik proposes parliamentary committee to probe Shahzain Bugti's arrest

Islamabad , Thu, 30 Dec 2010 ANI

Islamabad, Dec 30 (ANI): Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has proposed to appoint a parliamentary committee to independently investigate into the arrest of Jamhoori Watan Party's Balochistan chief Shahzain Bugti, who was detained for allegedly carrying huge cache of arms and ammunition last week.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Malik said the documentary evidence and video footage showed that Shahzain Bugti was carrying the weapons.

"There is no point of putting weapons (into his car which he claimed later)," the Dawn quoted him, as saying.

Malik said he had ordered an inquiry soon after the arrest of Shahzain, as his mother had called him and expressed her lack of trust in both the police and the Frontier Constabulary (FC).

Referring to the treatment meted out to Shahzain by security forces personnel, he said: "We all know the training of our forces, the tongue of our president still have a cut mark, I cannot describe how many times Benazir Bhutto was maltreated."

The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) tolerated humiliation, and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani was detained for five years in jails, said Malik, adding that the law did not allow humiliation, and that action would be taken against the personnel who maltreated Shahzain. (ANI)
