Melbourne's five-star hotels found to be "stomach-churning" due to filth

Melbourne, Dec 14 (ANI): A survey of Melbourne's five-star hotels has found that most of their luxury rooms are "stomach-churning" due to unsafe hygiene standards.

According to the Herald Sun, a forensic audit of seven top hotels has found evidence of human body matter in beds, mould in bathrooms and the presence of bacteria such as E-coli.

The secret audit was conducted by former police forensic investigator Peter Guerin, managing director of specialist cleaning company Bio-Clean, and was commissioned by the Liquor Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union.

Using swab tests to identify bacteria that can cause infection and disease, Guerin found evidence of body fluids and matter in sheets, urine stains in bathrooms and "body fat scum" in showers and baths.

"If you are paying 500 dollars a night to stay in one of these rooms, you simply don't expect to see these sorts of bacteria," News.com.au quoted him as saying.

Every hotel tested registered an unacceptable level of potentially health-threatening microbes.

"The study's results were stomach-churning - it found dirty toilets, scummy showers, mouldy bathrooms, stained mattresses riddled with pubic hairs and even infectious bacteria," he revealed.

"In one hotel bed I found a dozen pubic hairs and in another I found what appeared to be semen stains.

"Most rooms had urine splashes on their toilets, mould in their bathrooms and infectious bacteria was rife," he stated.

LHMU Victorian secretary Jess Walsh said hotel staff were not being given enough time to adequately clean rooms, with hotel management allowing just 15 minutes to clean each room.

"Room attendants have no choice but to cut corners or face losing their jobs," she added. (ANI)
