Pak teachers being killed in Balochistan: Human Rights Watch

Islamabad, Dec 14 (ANI): Human Rights Watch has warned that a number of teachers are being targeted and killed by militants in Pakistan's south-western province of Balochistan.

The BBC quoted report by the organisation as saying that at least 22 teachers were killed in the province between January 2008 and October 2010.

Despite being home to vast mineral resources, Balochistan remains a poor province that has become a breathing ground for a number of religious extremists and nationalist terrorists.

According to the Human Rights Watch report 'Their Future is at Stake', both these groups are responsible for carrying out attacks on teachers in the tregion.

"If such killings and intimidation does not stop, the future is bleak, not just for Balochistan's children, but for prosperity and progress to ever reach the province," Ali Dayan Hasan, senior Human Rights Watch researcher in South Asia, said.

Pakistan's government has been unable to control the violence so far, despite deploying of additional security forces in Balochistan. (ANI)
