London, Nov 27 (ANI): Retail therapy has always been a popular pastime among women, and now a new study has revealed that British women spend more than five years of their lives shopping as they hunt down the latest trends, beauty products and shoes.
According to the survey, the average woman's love of retail therapy means she spends an astonishing 598 hours a year trawling the High Street and internet for the latest must-haves.
Women in the UK shop for 11.5 hours a week - more than an entire working day.
The study has shown that women use up 37 days of the year shopping, spending over 1,000 pounds a year on their wardrobe.
On top of that, the study of more than 3,000 women from around the country revealed that the average woman snaps up 24 pairs of shoes every year.
But women embarrassed at having to admit they shop till they drop can blame it all on prehistoric ancestors.
Scientists have put women's love of shopping down to evolutionary reasons as females were honed to hunt down the tastiest food in our hunter-gatherer days - the equivalent of shopping today.
"Over their lifetime women spend the same amount of time shopping as they do at secondary school. If you are at your desk and you go on to a shopping site to look online for clothes, you can end up spending more than you would normally," the Daily Express quoted Maryam Hamizadeh of the Clothes Show Live, which ran the study, as saying.
"People also pop into the shops on their way home from work and hey don't think about the price of things, it's impulse buys," amizadeh added. (ANI)
