Washington, Nov.25 (ANI): The United States has decided to send the aircraft carrier "George Washington" into the waters off the Korean Peninsula, besides other vessels as a warning to North Korea to cease further hostilities against South Korea.
The decision to send the aircraft carrier was taken by US President Barack Obama after talks with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak.
According to the New York Times, both leaders also agreed on Tuesday night to hold joint military exercises as a first response to North Korea's deadly shelling of a South Korean military installation.
North Korean artillery shells killed two marines and destroyed several houses and other buildings on the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong.he exercise is also a signal to China that unless it reins in its unruly ally, it will see an even larger American presence in the vicinity.
The decision came after Mr. Obama attended the end of an emergency session in the White House Situation Room and then emerged to call President Lee Myung-bak to express American solidarity and talk about a coordinated response. (ANI)
