Obama updated on US progress in working with Pak to eradicate "violent extremists"

Islamabad, Nov 19 (ANI): US President Barack Obama received an update on Afghanistan and Pakistan, including the progress made at the latest US-Pak strategic talks regarding "working with Pakistan to root out violent extremists and support regional stability," during his routine monthly meeting at the White House.

 

Obama received an update "on our progress in disrupting, dismantling, and defeating al Qaeda in the region," a White House readout said.

 

"The President then focused on preparations for the NATO Lisbon Summit as it related to Afghanistan and ISAF issues to include recent commitments of additional trainers for Afghan National Security Forces, beginning transition of security responsibility to Afghan lead, and developing our long-term partnership with Afghanistan," the readout added.

 

According to the statement, the meeting "concluded with a discussion of the progress made at the recent U.S.-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue in working with Pakistan to root out violent extremists and support regional stability." (ANI)
