Taliban, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi plan suicide attacks across Pakistan on Eid

Islamabad, Sat, 13 Nov 2010 ANI

Islamabad, Nov 13 (ANI): The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ) have planned to carry out suicide attacks in Islamabad and other parts of the country during Eid, according to intelligence reports.

The Daily Times quoted threat alert-503 based on intelligence information, as saying that TTP Commander Qari Momin has sent four suicide bombers to attack Eid congregations in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and Faisalabad. The intelligence and law enforcement agencies have also received threats through fax by the TTP.

Another intelligence report has claimed that a terrorist, Ibrar, has assigned his accomplices to carry out suicide bombings across the country, particularly the areas, which had been peaceful so far.

The TTP has also reportedly planned suicide bombings in Punjab, particularly in Islamabad. Reports based on secret information further revealed that the terrorists had sent an explosive-laden vehicle from Miranshah to the high value targets in Punjab.

The paper quoted yet another report as claiming that terrorists were focusing on major cities of Punjab, especially Lahore and Rawalpindi as 762 major Eid congregations would be held in various cities of the province, many at open places.

The LJ was involved in various acts of terrorist activities and was likely to target Eid congregations, mosques, imambargahs, shrines, police and army establishments and places of worship belonging to minorities. It could also target civilians in markets, bazaars and sale points of sacrificial animal, the reports said.

A police official has suggested that the district administration should arrange walkthrough gates at important Eid congregations in collaboration with social workers and the Civil Defence Department.

Meanwhile, the law enforcement agencies have also been directed to remain vigilant to avoid any untoward incident while an effective strategy has been chalked out to monitor the activities of banned organisations, the paper said. (ANI)
