New York, Nov 9 (ANI): Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has accused PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif of having amassed over one billion dollars in ill-gotten wealth.
Addressing a gathering of Pakistanis at a New Jersey hotel, Musharraf claimed that the money had been stashed in bank accounts in London, and was looked after by Sharif's son, the Dawn reported.
He also asserted that if he returned to power, he would try the Sharifs in a court of law.
The former general, who had ousted the former prime minister in a coup in 1999, observed that Sharif will "never be allowed to assume seat of power in Pakistan after his confrontation with the army in 1999."
This is for the second time in two days that the APML leader has severely criticised Sharif. Earlier, responding to threats of lawsuit incessantly posed by the former premier, Musharraf had said, "As Nawaz knows that he will neither regain power nor will he be able to try me in a court of law, therefore, he resorts to blowing this trumpet time and again."
When asked by a person in the audience why had he been keeping quiet about the alleged corruption of President Asif Ali Zardari who also milked the country of billion of dollars, Musharraf replied, "The PPP government was under fire and I do not want to put more pressure on it."
The former general also rejected rumours of a split between his newly formed All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) and MQM. "We have no differences," he said.
The organisers of the event kept journalists away from Musharraf, and did not allow them to ask any question. (ANI)
