Wellington, Nov 03 (ANI): An Emu that escaped from a farm in New Zealand is said to have run at speeds of 30kmh chasing children before being apprehended.
The bird is said to have escaped from a farm in the Marlborough Sounds and then run 7km along the bays.onstable Jeff Woolf, of Picton, said he was called after reports from a tourist of a distressed Emu running along the road at Ocean Bay, Port Underwood.
But by the time he drove from Picton the Emu had run seven bays north, about seven kilometres, to Hakahaka Bay where it was eventually herded into a paddock by a group of locals.
"In 14 years on the job it's the most unusual call I've ever had. I felt like I was watching the Road Runner cartoon. Because my surname is Woolf ... I felt like Wile E Coyote," Stuff.co.nz quoted him as saying.
Woolf also said that while the callout was humorous the end result could have been a lot worse.
"Like any livestock on the road, if they get out they can get quite hazardous. If someone had swerved to avoid an Emu and crashed they could have been injured," he added. (ANI)
