Islamabad, Nov 2(ANI): Another girls' school has been destroyed in the Mohmand tribal area of northwest Pakistan, after unidentified militants detonated it with explosives, local officials said.
With this attack in Saagi area of Saafi sub-district, the number of schools destroyed by insurgent militants in the tribal area bordering Afghanistan has increased to 59 so far, Xinhua news agency reports.
Militants have destroyed over 250 schools in the entire region during the past couple of years.
According to official reports, some 98 schools were destroyed in Bajaur, 86 turned to rubble in Khyber and 59 in Mohmand tribal areas.
Certain groups of Taliban militants believe that modern education is allegedly not in line with the Islamic scriptures, with female education being their main target.
Analysts also believe that one of the hidden motives behind sabotaging schools is to keep attendance levels high in seminaries, some of which have allegedly been involved in brainwashing young boys to take up militancy as a way of life.
It exhibits an alarmingly rising trend among teenagers in the militant-infested northwest region of Pakistan, which is also the frontline in the US-led war on terror. (ANI)
