NATO forces in massive rescue operation to free Scottish woman abducted in Afghanistan

Kabul, Sept 28 (ANI): NATO forces are reportedly carrying out a massive rescue operation in Eastern Afghanistan in an attempt to rescue a Scottish female aid worker and three Afghans who were kidnapped by suspected insurgents.

 

According to the Scotsman, they were seized at gunpoint while travelling in a convoy to visit an aid project in the Narang district of Kunar.

 

Major Maqsoud Padshah, the district police chief said that the rescue operation was being carried out in the area where they from were they were kidnapped.

 

"We are working with local and international authorities to bring this to a safe conclusion for everyone involved.

 

Some of the tribals, who were sent to mediate with the kidnappers, have claimed that they had seen the four hostages in Kunar province.

 

The 36-year-old woman had been working for Development Alternatives Inc (DAI) in Afghanistan.

 

Meanwhile, the woman's mother said that the Foreign Office has asked the media and her family members not to disclose her name for security purpose and added: "We have been advised by the Foreign Office not to say anything. I don't want to jeopardise what is happening now. (ANI)
