Chinese farmers fuelling galloping Internet users growth: Blue paper

Beijing , Fri, 08 Oct 2010 ANI

Beijing, Oct 8 (ANI): Chinese farmers would become a "major driving force" in the growth of the country's internet users, as the net connections in rural areas grew by 71.6 per cent in the last three years outpacing the growth in urban areas by more than double, according to a blue paper recently released by a publishing house.

According to Xinhua, the blue paper claimed that from 2007 to 2009, the number of Internet users in rural areas grew 71.6 percent per annum, double of the urban rate (34.6 percent). By 2009, about 100 million people in rural areas had access to Internet.

The blue paper, which analysed the development of China's information industry this year, further said that there was plenty of room for increases as the gap between coverage in rural and urban areas was huge.hina's internet population is currently the world's biggest with its number exceeding 420 million, the blue paper said.
