Peshawar, Oct 5 (ANI): The treasury and opposition benches in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in Pakistan have said that former president Pervez Musharraf, who twice violated the constitution, should be "tried under Article 6 of the Constitution, as he is a criminal."
Tabling his adjournment motion, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party's Javed Abbasi said that Musharraf, "who trampled the constitution twice", was involved in Baloch leader Akbar Bugti's murder, the Lal Masjid massacre and handing over of Dr Aafia to the US in exchange for dollars, and was now conspiring against democracy while sitting in a foreign country, the Daily Times reported.
He alleged that Musharraf wanted the army to have a constitutional role in the country's set-up, in order to make the prestigious institution controversial and give an impression to the world that democracy in Pakistan had failed.
"Therefore, he should be brought back to Pakistan through Interpol and tried under Article-6 of the constitution as he is a criminal... this way no one will dare violate the constitution in the future," the MPA said, asking the government to support the opposition over the Musharraf issue.
Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour endorsed Abbasi's views and appreciated the army for its services in the war against terrorism and floods.
"If Musharraf thinks he can make a comeback and rule the country again, it's his wishful thinking," Bilour said, adding that the army had a role in the constitution and that was to defend the country's frontiers. (ANI)
