Now, Japan, Sweden warn citizens against al-Qaeda Mumbai-style terror attacks in Europe

Tokyo, Tue, 05 Oct 2010 ANI

Tokyo, Oct 5 (ANI): In the latest development, Japan and Sweden have now joined the US and Britain by issuing travel warnings of a Mumbai-style attack on major transport hubs or tourist attractions across Europe.

According to the Telegraph, both the countries have warned their citizens that the al-Qaeda was plotting terror attacks on foreign visitors in Europe and that the travellers should be extra cautious in public places, tourist attractions and in "other places with large crowds".On Sunday, the British Foreign Office warned tourists to remain vigilant amid fears of al-Qaeda's commando-style attacks in Europe following a series of terror alerts.

"Like other large European countries, the French/German authorities continue to consider that there is a high threat of terrorism. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers," the UK Foreign Office had said.

The move came shortly after America triggered a Europe-wide terrorism alert based on intelligence reports that the continent had been targeted, highlighting the 'potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems and other tourist infrastructure'. (ANI)
