Brit-Indian trainee pilot killed in US plane crash

London, Oct 4 (ANI): Jaskinder Samra, an Indian origin British trainee pilot, has been killed after a rented plane ran out of fuel mid-air and crashed in Murray County of Georgia in the United States.

According to the Daily Mail, the 21-year-old stewardess was one of the people aboard a single-engine Cessna that went down in Murray County in Georgia.

While Samra and an American pilot Abraham George were killed, a fellow Briton Shaun Thacker miraculously survived the crash and is reportedly recovering in a hospital with a broken hip and other injuries.

The three trainee pilots had rented the 41-year-old plane from a flight school and George was behind the controls when the plane dived with just half a gallon of useable fuel left in the tank on September 24.

She went to the US earlier this year to train at a Florida-based flying school after her family agreed to finance her pilot dream.

"She was taking lessons and had gained her pilot's licence and could fly non-commercial aircraft. Once you've got your licence you need to get flying time. This flight was an opportunity for the three of them to get some hours under their belts," her cousin Manny Kooner, said.

"The plane had travelled about 400 of the 450 mile trip when eyewitnesses say it began making spluttering noises before the engine cut out. The family is absolutely devastated. You can imagine the anguish," Kooner added.

Jaskinder had moved to America to follow her dream of becoming a passenger jet pilot. Described as 'intelligent and popular' by her friends, Jaskinder had worked as an air stewardess for British Airways and Easy Jet in the past, the paper said. (ANI)
