Pak Army brands 'Pak-based terrorists planning Europe attack' reports 'very speculative'

Islamabad, Thu, 30 Sep 2010 ANI

Islamabad, Sep 30 (ANI): Not attaching much significance to the claims that Pakistan-based terrorists, thought to be linked to Al Qaeda, were planning simultaneous strikes on London and other European cities, the Pakistan Army has dismissed them as "very speculative."

"We don't have any information or intelligence that militants had gathered there (in North Waziristan) and were plotting attacks. There is absolutely no intelligence on that," the Daily Times quoted Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Major, General Athar Abbas, as saying.

Two days back, Sky News had reported that Pakistan-based terrorists were planning Mumbai-style attacks on London as well as on cities in France and Germany.

Dismissing the TV channel's report, Abbas said, "Basically it's very speculative... It's a very speculative story. It does not quote any credible source."

While no senior-ranking terrorists had been reported killed, Pakistani intelligence officials say a number of others of different nationalities were believed to have been killed, the paper said.

Earlier this week, the latest terror plot to launch Mumbai-style attacks in the UK, France and Germany was unearthed and disrupted after intelligence sharing among the spy agencies from these the countries and the United States. (ANI)
