Malik vows enquiry into NATO attack violating Pak sovereignty

Islamabad , Tue, 28 Sep 2010 ANI

Islamabad, Sep 28 (ANI): Following aerial engagement in Pakistani territory by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has called it a violation of Pakistan's sovereignty, and assured the Senate that the Afghan ambassador would be summoned to explain his position over the cross-border air raids by the ISAF.

Responding to points of order in the House, Malik confirmed that two NATO helicopters, which had entered Pakistan and killed 30 insurgents, had violated the Pakistani territory, the Daily Times reported.

"This is an attack on our sovereignty. We will react soon and serve notice on Afghan ambassador", Malik said, adding that the Foreign Office was investigating the matter.

Commenting on the situation in Balochistan, he claimed that target killings there were under control due to the measures taken by him during his visit to the province, adding that the arrest of 100 absconders and the banning of five organisations in Balochistan had improved the situation there.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai had been informed that Afghanistan's border areas were being used against Pakistan, and that anti-Pakistan elements had camps in Kandahar, Malik stated.

He also said that action would be taken against Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, as the government had enough evidence to prove that the banned outfit was involved in terrorist incidents. (ANI)
