Washington, Sept 28 (ANI): A majority of Americans may vote against US President Barack Obama in the 2012 election, but he would come up on top if Sarah Palin is the Republican presidential nominee, according to the latest Politico / George Washington University Battleground poll.
Only 44 percent of the respondents said that Obama does not deserve to be re-elected while only 38 percent want him to remain as their President. Thirteen percent said they would consider voting for someone else.
According to the poll, Obama remains more popular than Sarah Palin, the most recognizable top Republican to voters. It further suggested that voters would back Obama by an eight-point margin over Palin if the vote were today and added that support for her is weak in the Midwest and the Northeast.
58 percent of the respondents said that Palin's actions since the time she resigned as Alaska governor in 2009 have made them less likely to vote for her as President.
According to Politico, a majority of voters have expressed their disparagement on his new health care law. Over half of self-identified independents, 54 percent, have an unfavourable opinion of the law, compared with just 38 percent who have a favourable opinion.
By an 11-point margin, voters trust congressional Republicans to create jobs more than Obama, the poll revealed.
Congressional Democrats held a 2-point edge when asked who could best turn around the economy. Republicans held an 8-point edge when matched up against Obama. (ANI)
