US drone attacks jeopardising Pak's national security: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor

Peshawar , Fri, 24 Sep 2010 ANI

Peshawar, Sep 24 (ANI): Governor of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province- Owais Ahmed Ghani- has said that while frequent attacks staged by the US drones were jeopardising the national security, the government's principled stand and policy on such drone attacks had been unambiguous.

"We think the drone attacks are endangering security of Pakistan. They are not working," The News quoted Ghani, as saying in response to questions by reporters at the Frontier Scouts Cadet College in Warsak.

Referring to his earlier interactions with media, he said that he had repeatedly declared in categorical terms that the situation arising out of the ongoing wave of militancy in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and the adjacent tribal areas would take time to return to normalcy.

"We have been fighting against them for the last two and a half years now and security forces tasked with defeating militants are steadily advancing to achieve their ultimate goal," he added.

The governor said there was a time when the government security agencies and administration were forced out of some parts of the tribal areas, but today the forces were retaking these areas.

Linking the security situation in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjacent tribal agencies to the situation in Afghanistan, he recognised "some indigenous problems that have led to the present precarious security situation."

"We have countered militants to some extent but the situation will further improve or become normal in a year. I have no doubt about the success of the operations against the militants and have the conviction that all this has become possible with resolve of the entire nation to defeat the militants," he added.
