Lahore, Wed, 22 Sep 2010 ANI

Lahore: At least 28 people were killed when three US-led drone attacks struck in remote areas of South and North Waziristan in Pakistan.

According to sources, the first attack took place in Miranshah, where the drone aircraft pounded two missiles, killing at least nine people, the Daily Times reported.

At least twelve people were killed in the second drone strike, which targeted Azam Warsak, located about 25 kilometres west of Wana, the main town of South Waziristan's tribal district. The US drone fired five missiles at the office of Shamsullah, a commander of militant group, Maulvi Nazir Ahmed.

In the third drone attack that targeted a vehicle in Bundh, at least seven people were killed.

There have been over 200 strikes, which have killed over 900 people, mostly civilians, in the troubled northwest tribal areas of Pakistan since 2008.

Recently, a report by a top UN official had criticized the Obama administration for continuing the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operated drone attacks in the semi-autonomous tribal areas of Pakistan, as it has resulted in countless civilian deaths. (ANI)
