Islamabad, Sep 14(ANI): The United Nations Expert Adviser on Human Rights and former Pakistan Human Rights Minister, Ansar Burney, has appreciated the Indian government's gesture of assuring the release of over 35 Pakistani prisoners on humanitarian grounds.

The prisoners, including seven fishermen, would be released and handed over to Pakistan at Wagah Border this week.

Burney said that the prisoners were in Indian jails despite completing their jail terms.

He also said that the 'Ansar Burney Trust' had requested the Indian government for the release in the greater interest of justice, human dignity and human rights.

Burney thanked Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Foreign Affairs Ministry, Home Affairs Ministry and Indian High Commission in Islamabad for considering the release.

He also hopes that such decisions would be very helpful for the Ansar Burney Trust in bringing love and peace in the region. (ANI)
